Our school is located in a rural area near a big city, Le Havre. The village has about 900 inhabitants. The school is a small structure of 4 classes, the children are between 3 and 11 years old, they are 94. There are 5 teachers and 10 municipal agents (maternal assistant, maintenance staff, canteen)
The priority areas of the school project are, for 2017/2020, to develop communication within the school, to accentuate the care of children in school difficulties, to give priority to opening actions. We will add two additional components over the period: work on social integration, the reception of new entrants (rental housing brings a new population into the school) and a reflection on the alternative to traditional forms of learning.
Engaged for several years in a project approach, our school wishes to set up, in September, a project of artistic and geographical discovery of space.
Our dialogue with the students allowed us to have a vision of their way of life. It seems that children’s lives are largely organized around television, computers and video games, despite their rural environment. They present a passive attitude towards learning. The relation to the other is often disturbed by the false relations maintained with the games in networks. On the other hand, children do not easily access cultural infrastructures and we want them to take into account their immediate and remote environment in the construction of their identity.
As part of this project, we want to lead children towards a cultural and geographical opening. We will try to compensate for the social inequalities of access to culture We also wish to privilege the “true” relationship in order to recreate effective and non-virtual social links.

We will share with our partner institutions our experience in the field of artistic projects. We will reflect on the theme: Being born somewhere, and how to build a cultural identity.
The teachers involved in the project have a long experience of primary education. All also have a very clear vision of what is involved in a European project (3 out of 5 experienced the 3 previous projects). Their motivation is important. The project co-ordinator can be replaced by colleagues because the project is developed jointly.
We have promoted English learning since kindergarten. This approach, the first step towards Europe, facilitates the implementation of European projects and gives meaning to the learning of the language.
Our experience in terms of cultural activities is varied: artist residencies, opera project, artistic practice workshop (dance, circus, theater, visual arts …)

On the other hand, the school is equipped with important computer equipment. This facilitates exchanges with the European community. We use the link daily through the net and we can give life to our projects. This allows students to use the computer as a communication and learning tool: the computer takes back its place of connector in the “real life” unlike the online games.
